Have you ever dreamed of making a buck online? A lot of us aspiring webmasters have tried, but most fail. I, like many, started off monetizing sites with Google’s Adsense program.
How does it work? Adsense is pretty easy. You show Google your sites. Then you tell them that you want to place Google ads on your sites. They give you some code, you plug it into your site, and then these pretty ads start popping up. When someone visits the ads, you make a few pennies. Sounds simple right?
The problem is that everyone hates ads. How do you get around that? Through adsense placement and blending. You place the ads where readers will see them, and you blend the colors to make it look just like the rest of your site. In an ideal world, visitors will come to you for information, you give them what you can, and then they visit the advertisers to buy or learn more. Still sounds simple right?
The other problem is that amount of money. Some topics pay well, while others pay hardly anything. The most popular issues such as celebrities and sports don’t pay hardly anything. The unpopular issues such as insurance and lawyers pay a lot. So you can focus on the fun stuff and hardly make anything, or you can focus on the boring stuff ans pray you get enough visitors.
Some folks do really well with it though. If you want to find out more just go to Google. Then you can apply for their Adsense and give it a shot. Good luck!!

Walter Gropius is being celebrated today by Google in the Google logo that is on their search engine home page. If you are not familiar with Walter Gropius (his name is mistakenly spelled by some as Walter Groupis, Walter Groupius, and all kinds of other ways just like those Yankees mess up our Cajun names!), he is known as the father of modern architecture, and his building designs from the 1930’s are known around the world. this does not have a lot of do with Cajuns or Louisiana, but I wanted to write a bit about the father of modern architecture since I did study him heavily at LSU.
Walter Gropius (1883-1969). Studied at the Colleges of Technology of Berlin and Munich. Worked under the german architect Peter Behrens. He was influenced by the writings of Frank Lloyd Wright. Founded the Bauhaus, one of the most influential architecture and design schools of the 20th century. The rise of National Socialsim and Adolf Hitler drove Gropius out of Germany. He first went to London, but eventually settled in Boston, where he taught at Harvard and MIT.
Walter Gropius was a German architect, principal of the School of Arts and Crafts in Berlin, Director of Art Education in Prussia and a pioneer of the modern movement. He helped to develop the links between architecture, social needs and industrial techniques. He was a pupil of Peter Behrens and helped to found the Deutscher Werkbund. From 1919 to 1928 he was Director of the Bauhaus. Walter Gropius moved to England in 1934 and America in 1938. Walter Gropius own house, in America, reveals surprisingly little interest in the design of outdoor space and, like Peter Behrens he was not averse to random rubble walling with sloppy mortar joints.

The big storm that rolled through Baton Rouge is over now. Lord that was amazing! I don’t know how much rain fell, but it was a lot. Louisiana got soaked for sure. We had thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings, and even a tornado warning this morning. When I left for work, it was still pouring outside and the roads, parking lots, and ditches were just covered with water. I’ll bet you that we must have gotten 7″ of rain or better from the storm.
All that rain led to a bunch of car accidents. While it normally takes me a good 30 minutes to get home from work, it took me over an hour yesterday. There were at least 6 wrecks that I passed on my route.
A friend told me about a wreck on I-12 where a cop was directing traffic around another wreck, and the cop ended up causing another mild accident. Crazy huh? I wonder if the cop/ city will be liable for the second wreck? I tried to get an answer to this. The best I found was on police officer liability negligently directing traffic. I think the cop is liable. Of course that means that the city is, which means that we are all liable.
Hopefully we don’t get any more rain in Baton Rouge for a few days.
