Big Storm Over, Many Car Accidents In Wake

May 15th, 2008 by gtull1

The big storm that rolled through Baton Rouge is over now.  Lord that was amazing!  I don’t know how much rain fell, but it was a lot.  Louisiana got soaked for sure. We had thunderstorm warnings, flash flood warnings, and even a tornado warning this morning.  When I left for work, it was still pouring outside and the roads, parking lots, and ditches were just covered with water.  I’ll bet you that we must have gotten 7″ of rain or better from the storm.

All that rain led to a bunch of car accidents.  While it normally takes me a good 30 minutes to get home from work, it took me over an hour yesterday.  There were at least 6 wrecks that I passed on my route.

A friend told me about a wreck on I-12 where a cop was directing traffic around another wreck, and the cop ended up causing another mild accident.  Crazy huh? I wonder if the cop/ city will be liable for the second wreck?  I tried to get an answer to this.  The best I found was on police officer liability negligently directing traffic. I think the cop is liable.  Of course that means that the city is, which means that we are all liable.

Hopefully we don’t get any more rain in Baton Rouge for a few days.
